Stinging Nettles are growing in huge profusion beside the Bofors Gun emplacement, which is itself slowly disappearing behind their dense metre high growth. The leaves make a refreshing green tea.

Great Tits

A pair of great tits nested in the cracked and broken concrete of the derelict bofors gun emplacement. They spent many hours, in an unending hunt for caterpillars, hover flies and other bugs to feed their clutch of eight demanding young. The gun emplacement built to protect against an airborne enemy in 1944,  now provides refuge for airborne friends.

The Egg is embedded in the fabric of Sue Carley’s blue skirt which formed part of her final degree show at Solent University. On May 5th she came to photograph that part of her 2014 collection inspired by our collaboration to devise ‘Egg Wear’. Tide Marks

IMG_3460

The river gathers and weaves together all manner of flotsam into organic carpets formed by rippling waves meeting shore, where today they were dried by the sun. They are an indicator of season, height of tide, local growth and animal life. The presence of people is frequently to be found in their plastic additions. Each tells its own story.

Nestling in the Nettle Tops 2

The nettle tops continue to harbour lots of different creatures, from the ladybirds already described to spiders, resting hover flies, bees and caterpillars (so far only evidenced by their eggs and eaten leaves). There are many earwigs too.
